The goal of the mission committee is to continue Christ's work in the world by connecting members of St. Matthew with ministry opportunities that "help the least of these." Mission Emphasis for April is "Stop Hunger How" This is a District-Wide Youth Mission to raise $72,000 and pack 285,120+ meals. We're asked to get involved in the packing day on Saturday, April 21st at Advent UMC. You can go to the website for more information, to donate and to sign up for a packing shift: https://www.stophungernow.com/upstate. Youth and confirmation classes are encouraged to sign up for the 10:30am shift. United Ministries We provide money monthly to assist the less fortunate with rent, utilities and medicine; to assist in helping adults study and take the GED test, and to help with the job assistance program. Triune Mercy Center We provide a hot meal on the 5th Saturday of the month for approximately 100 hungry people. Members cook and serve the meal. Learn More About the Triune Mercy Center
Greenville Interfaith Hospitality Network (GAIHN) We house homeless families in our church several times a year. Members provide breakfast and dinners, spend the night with our guests and move our guests in and out. We provide money monthly to pay utilities for one of GAIHN's transitional houses. School Supplies for local schools. Our school supplies are given to the guidance counselors at Augusta Circle, Blythe and Sara Collins.
Epworth Children's Home A home sponsored by the UMC for more than 75 children who have in some way lost their families. We contribute money.
Salkehatchie Teams of adults and youth go to sites in South Carolina to repair owner occupied homes. (1 week). St. Matthew contributes money and people power. Learn more about Salkehatchie
Angel Tree Our Angel Tree has tags that support foster children in Greenville. Members provide money, toys, clothing, etc. Learn more about the Angel Tree and foster children: Pendleton Place or Fostering Great Ideas and Growing Home Southeast
Pendleton Place Children's Shelter Pendleton Place Children's Shelter is a place of safety and comfort for children who have been hurt by abuse, neglect, or abandonment. There are opportunities for individuals as well as group volunteers.
Epiphany Members participate in this ministry whose mission statement is "To show Christ's love to troubled and incarcerated youth" God's Hands and Feet Members provide the people power to assist others with light home repair and yard work. Operation Inasmuch and Fostering Great Ideas Members are asked to join a team to donate one Saturday morning of work at a local non-profit. Part of that day will be preparing and serving a meal to foster children and their families - Thanksgiving Grace. Global Ministries UMVIM (Volunteers in Mission) is a program of the United Methodist Church that enables participants to give of their time and talents to mission projects within our state, our nation, and around the world. The Powers family, St. Matthew members, are serving with Mission Doctors Association as missionary doctors in Africa.
