This Week at St. Matthew

Building life-changing relationships
with God, one another, and our community.

End of Year Donations

December brings the end of our calendar year and also a flurry of donations as we complete our giving to St. Matthew for 2018.
Tax-deductible donations will be accepted through December 31. If you have questions about the status of your 2018 pledge, please call Susan Woods at 242-1966 for your current donation information.

Donations may be delivered to the church through December 31. If the office is closed, just put your donation in an envelope and drop it in the slot in the office door. Any donations mailed and postmarked by December 31 will also be tax-deductible for 2018.

If you intend to make a stock gift, please make your stock transfer by December 19th to ensure that the transfer is completed before year end. If you are planning to make a stock gift, contact Bob Davis at 918-3398 or Denise Sudderth at 901-5873 so we will know to expect your stock transfer.

Thank you for your faithful support of St. Matthew in 2018!

Advent Service of Lessons & Carols featuring the Chancel & Children’s Choirs
11:00 am combined service
Sunday school @ 10:00 am

Blue? Yes, blue as in the blues. As in “I am feeling blue.” Not everyone is up and cheery for the Christmas holidays. Dealing with the death of a loved one, facing life after divorce or separation, coping with the loss of a job, living with cancer or some other disease that puts a question mark over the future, and a number of other human situations make parties and joviality painful for many people in our congregations and communities. There is a growing attentiveness to the needs of people who are blue at Christmas. Increasing numbers of churches are creating sacred space for people living through dark times. Such services are reflective, accepting where we really are, and holding out healing and hope. (umcdiscipleship.org)
(A NURSERY WILL BE AVAILABLE)

Join us for our annual Christmas Eve Candlelight & Communion Service beginning at 5:30 pm in the Sanctuary.
Stay for our annual reception in the Parlor, immediately following the Candlelight service. Please bring an appetizer or dessert to share, and come enjoy this time of fellowship and holiday cheer!

(A nursery will be provided for infants and toddlers.
Glow sticks are available for children as an alternative to candles.)

Children’s Advent Packets are still available to be picked up in the Narthex. One per child please. A weekly devotional is also available for all who would like one. These are the same devotions included in the Children’s Advent Packets, without the activities.

Serve

Thank you to all who helped with hosting the IHN families.

Join us this Friday, December 14, as we serve a hearty holiday meal and deliver gifts to the children of the Greenville County Juvenile Detention Facility.  Lunch will be served at 11:30 at the downtown facility.  Our annual luncheon is a time to show love, grace, and mercy to youth of Greenville County who are in extraordinarily difficult situations.  If you can’t make it and want to contribute, just sign up for a meal item and drop at the church before 11:00 am Friday.
Email jblakebrookshire@gmail.com with questions!

The early service has communion on the first Sunday of every month.  A volunteer is needed each month to set up and clean up the Table.  It is easy yet so important!  All the supplies you need are provided for you.  It takes about 10 minutes before the service to set up and about 10 minutes after the service ends to clean up.  Call or text Beth Murphy at 864-593-2120 and she will answer any questions and will arrange a training to show you what to do!  It is possible to combine this job when volunteering to serve coffee.  Ready to sign up?  Click the link below.
