St Matthew works to continue Christ’s work in the world by connecting the congregation with ministry opportunities that “help the least of these.” All of our mission efforts need volunteers as well as financial assistance. Epworth Children’s Home Epworth Children’s logo

Fostering Great IdeasFostering Great Ideas
At Thanksgiving we help foster children by preparing and serving a meal, “Thanksgiving Grace,” to foster children and their families. At Christmas we collect teddy bears to give to foster children for comfort during stressful times – “Operation Bear Hug.” We donate luggage to children in foster care to use when they move to a different home – “Carry On“. We also have an “Angel Tree” which has tags that support foster children in Greenville, through gifts of money, toys, clothing, etc. Learn more about how to help foster children: Fostering Great Ideas.
UMVIM (Volunteers in Mission) is a program of the United Methodist Church that enables participants to give of their time and talents to mission projects within our state, our nation, and around the world.

We house homeless families in our church several times a year. Members provide breakfast and dinners, spend the night with our guests and move our guests in and out. We provide money monthly to pay utilities for one of GAIHN’s transitional houses.

Every autumn we collect filled shoeboxes to help with this global ministry.
Teams of adults and youth go to sites in South Carolina to repair owner occupied homes. (1 week). St. Matthew contributes money and people power. Learn more about Salkehatchie
School Supplies for local schools.
Each year we collect school supplies to give to the guidance counselors at area elementary and middle schools.

We provide a hot meal on the 5th Saturday of the month for approximately 100 hungry people. Members cook and serve the meal. Learn More About the Triune Mercy Center
United MinistriesUnited Ministries
We provide money monthly to assist the less fortunate with rent, utilities and medicine; to assist in helping adults study and take the GED test, and to help with the job assistance program. We collect items for Place of Hope. We have on-going donations of non-perishables for the UM food pantry, with a special collection on Thanksgiving. Food Collection Baskets are in the Narthex, Office,Family Life Center, and in the adult, youth, and children’s Sunday School halls. Learn More About United Ministries.
St. Matthew has a Missions Fund. Contributions to this fund may be made in honor of in memory of loved ones.
